Committee of the Dunster Community Forest Society

The Dunster Community Forest has obtained funding to purchase one set of fire suppression equipment (trailer, tank, pumps, hoses, tools, etc.) for this year’s fire season (2025).

Wildfire Community Preparedness Day

On June 28, we will be hosting a Wildfire Community Preparedness Day, sponsored by FireSmart Canada, where we will be displaying and demonstrating our new fire suppression equipment.  There will be some education along with some fun games, races and a raffle.  Food and beverages will be provided by our sponsor.

Dunster Emergency Contact List

We are continuing to update the Dunster Emergency Contact/Phone list to serve as a resource for notifying locals of potential wildfires in the immediate area and for mobilizing people with skills and equipment until BC Wildfire Services arrives. This information will also be extremely helpful to BC Wildfire Services during an event.

We need the support of community members by filling out the Resident Information Sheet. It can be either dropped off at the DCF Office located at the Dunster Schoolhouse (Mon-Wed 10 am to 4 pm) or emailed to admin<at>dunstercommunityforest.caThis information will be kept securely at the Dunster Community Forest Office and only shared during an emergency with other community members and first responders.

If you have any questions or would like to participate in any stages of putting together a plan, please contact us.

Dunster Wildfire Dashboard

This dashboard was created to see in real time any fire hotspots in the Dunster area.  The BC Wildfire polygons (Out of control, Being Held, Under Control and Out) are updated as per BC Wildfire services – BCWS_FirePerimeters_PublicView (FeatureServer).  For alerting residence of the Dunster Community, the map lasso can be used to visually sort the properties that might be affected by a local fire and/or thermal hotspot and cross reference them with a local phone list.  Contact would be made via a Dunster Fire Brigade volunteer in a situation of a Out of Control fire and potential evacuation alert.

By working with neighbours, it allows you to build up your own resilience through resource and skills sharing.
