BCWS Cooperative Community Wildfire Response
The Community of Dunster has been included in the BC Wildfire Service & Fraser Basin Council: “Cooperative Community Wildfire Response” program. They are offering free limited basic wildfire training. The Dunster Community Forest has taken the lead on organizing the training.
Training will occur on:
- Tuesday May 7 at 9:30am to 5:00 pm in Classroom (Dunster Schoolhouse)
- Wednesday May 8 at ~8:00 am to 5:00 pm; morning in Classroom, afternoon will be outside
The training will be facilitated by experienced contract trainers (Celtic Reforestation Services Ltd., out of Prince George) and will include:
- S-100: This course provides basic fire suppression training for contract crews. It is delivered over two full days, one day covering theory in the classroom and one day of practical exercises in the field, including a physically demanding component.
- S-185: This course will develop a basic knowledge of fire entrapment avoidance and safe work procedures.
- ICS-100: (online course delivered through Justice Institute of BC) This course will familiarize participants with the incident command structure that the BC Wildfire Services follows with all partner agencies.
- FireSmart Wildfire Risk Reduction: (online course) This course will introduce the key concepts and risk reduction strategies to minimize the negative impact of wildfires in B.C.
Each Dunster community member must complete a SELF-Assessment: Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PARQ) to ensure they are cleared for physical activity.
